Squirrel Release Notes

We are regularly improving and adding new features to Squirrel

Version 1.16.10014

Hotfix for an issue with images on locally exported projects

The last hotfix introduced a bug where images stopped working on locally exported projects.  This but has now been squished.

Version 1.16.10013

Hotfix for an issue with Excel and Google connectors

When previewing or debugging your project with either of the Excel or Google connectors selected in the property panel; the selected oauth credentials were cleared out resulting in an Error: [Object object] message.

We have updated the flow, so that the credentials are not cleared during debug or preview.

Version 1.16.11

Hotfix for the following issues introduced in v1.16.

    • Designer crashes when deleting a duplicate container
    • Locally exported projects not loading images correctly (affects v.1.16.8)
    • Main canvas background images not working in PWA (affects v1.16.8).

Version 1.16.8

Hotfix for a couple of issues

    • Fixed an issue where the Squirrel designer was crashing on opening a file with certain chart zoom settings
    • Googlesheets connectors (read and write) were not displaying properties fully when there were muultiple connectors with different oauth settings in use.

Version 1.16

Project Settings – A single place for export settings and more

Previously you had to change the canvas settings and export options in different places, and in some cases you could change things in more than one place. Now they have their own home in the File > Project Settings window. This is the go-to location to change settings which affect your whole project.

Save your Squirrel file when publishing

In the new Project Settings window, you can now optionally turn on the ability to store a copy of your SQRL file when you publish your project to the cloud. You can then download this file from your Project Manager. This will help keep track of which SQRL file was used for each published project.

Create Progressive Web Applications (PWA)

As a PWA, your Squirrel project can be installed on desktop and mobile devices, where it will look and feel like a native application. With the magic of caching, your Squirrel project, published as a PWA, is usable offline. You enable PWA in the new Project Settings window.

New Google Sheets and Excel Online connectors – Read and write to your spreadsheets

Connect directly to your Google Sheet or Excel document and bring in your data as a live connection. You can also write back and store data in your documents too.

Smartsheet connectivity – Read and write to Smartsheets

Easily build apps on top of smartsheet. Let a smartsheet backend power you app with our new smartsheet connectors that allow you to read, update and insert data to your sheets as a live connection.

We also squished over 40 bugs and made a few improvements including:

  • Text input now works correctly inside the repeat container
  • You can copy and paste containers now without the risk of it crashing Squirrel
  • Zapier connector trigger can now handle empty values
  • The dropdown height can now handle fonts smaller than 15px
  • Recent colours is now unique to each user on shared machines
  • You can now turn off the hover text styling on the scorecard.

Version 1.15.11

Hotfix for an issue relating to scorecards

The following issues were present in scorecards with automatic column sizing turned off:

      • Scrolling in the table with Row Selection enabled causes an offset with hover and data insertion
      • A bottom scroll bar appears, even if the total of the column widths is less than the component width. Will disappear upon interaction with the component in Debug/Preview.

Version 1.15.10

Hotfix for an issue relating to volatile functions

      • Fixed an issue where formula engine improvements in 1.15 were causing NOW(), TODAY(), RAND() and RANDBETWEEN() function not to calculate on load
      • Also fixed a problem with the webi connector was not refreshing properly
      • There was an issue with scenarios, only when hidden, that could cause a crash. This has been fixed too.

Version 1.15.8

Hotfix (optional) for a few specific issues

      • Fixed an issue where the charts were flickering if bound to the x,y cursor pos of a hotspot.
      • Setting padding to 0 on a repeat container caused the designer to crash.
      • Interacting with the option to ‘Ignore series with no name’ could cause designer to black screen.
      • Sorted a problem where the drop down wouldn’t decrease in size below 15 pt font.

Version 1.15.7

Hotfix for an issue with Data Sheets

    • Fixed an issue where Data Sheets were not loading correctly due to the property panel not loading the correct setting.

Version 1.15.6

Hotfix for crash when opening files

    • In 1.15 we implemented a fix to address an issue with the series name in the sorting dropdown being incorrect. Unfortunately, this introduced another issue where charts that have sorting turned on, but no data values would caused the project to crash. This hotfix addresses the issue.

Version 1.15

Repeat Container – Save time using the new Repeat Container

Building interfaces just got loads easier. Drag and arrange objects into the repeat container and they are automatically repeated in rows (column and grid layouts coming soon). The magic happens when you bind the container to a range that contains all the values that should be dynamically replaced in the property bindings for each new instance of the object/component.

Impact analysis

Ever wondered what is putting data into that cell in the spreadsheet? or if you’ll break anything if you update a valuue or formula? With Impact analysis we’ve made it possible to select a cell in the spreadsheet and find out what components, functions or connections are bound to that cell, or even what formulas are referencing it.

Bulk property editing – Update properties on multiple objects in one go

Select multiple objects of the same type and update their properties at the same time.

Font Switcher

Changing the font used in a project (especially after you were a considerable way into its creation) used to be painful. Now you can get a list of used fonts and styles and switch then easily for another.

New and updated components, functions and connections

  • Text Area – NEW
  • Multi-select Dropdown – NEW
  • Browser Info – NEW
  • Hotspot now lets you capture the mouse position ( x and y)
  • CSV connector gets Data Sheet option

We also squished a bunch of bugs and made a few improvements including:

  • Adding alignment options in to the quick setup tab on Text Label
  • Fixed an issue where the zoom level wasn’t reseting properly on the selection layer after going into an out of debug
  • Object browser icons now display properly on high DPI screens
  • We fixed a few bothersome chart issues including tooltips not ignoring end blanks, alerting not working when sorting is applied and a crash when binding pie charts to a single cell
  • Number formatting on slider tooltip fixed.
